Wisconsin Man Impersonates Border Patrol Agent, Faces Identity Theft Charges

A New Berlin, Wisconsin resident, Hank Glembin, 34, is facing charges of identity theft and impersonating a peace officer after allegedly posing as a U.S. Border Patrol agent on two separate occasions in January. The Waukesha County District Attorney's Office filed charges after investigations revealed Glembin's deceptive actions.

The first incident occurred on January 25th in Muskego, Wisconsin. A police officer responding to a deer-vehicle collision was approached by Glembin, who offered assistance. Initially claiming to be with the Department of Public Works, Glembin later identified himself as an off-duty Border Patrol agent. He was dressed in attire resembling a Border Patrol uniform, complete with a CBP hat, a duty vest, and what appeared to be official identification. Glembin's clothing displayed markings such as "DHS, CBP-BPA, and Agent H.D. Glembin." He also carried a handcuff case, a seemingly legitimate firearm, and shoulder-mounted red and white lights. Despite the officer declining his help, Glembin proceeded to move the deceased deer.

Just days later, on January 29th, Glembin engaged in a similar scenario with a New Berlin police officer during a traffic stop. Wearing the same attire, he again claimed to be an off-duty Border Patrol agent and offered assistance. The officer observed "Border Patrol Unit" on the back of Glembin’s vest. Subsequent investigation by New Berlin police, in consultation with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection special agent, confirmed that Glembin was not a federal agent and that his uniform and credentials were fraudulent.

Following his apprehension, Glembin confessed to impersonating an agent and acknowledged that his uniform and gear were fake. He stated his aspiration to become a Border Patrol agent. He is scheduled for a court hearing on February 13th and was released on a $2,000 signature bond. The Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office has been contacted for further comment.
