Ashley White, a 29-year-old Colorado resident, has been found guilty of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, and robbery in connection with the August 2020 death of her boyfriend, Cody DeLisa. The couple's relationship had been fraught with tension, largely stemming from DeLisa's criticism of White's difficulty securing full-time employment.
Prosecutors revealed that White harbored resentment towards DeLisa for his remarks, even documenting her regrets about their relationship in her diary. They also highlighted an incident where White attempted to harm DeLisa's cat, raising concerns about her mental state. The tragic events unfolded after White attended a job interview in Denver. On her bus ride home, she texted DeLisa about the interview, only to be met with his skepticism about her chances of getting hired.
Upset by DeLisa's doubts, White struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger who called himself "Scott." During their exchange, White claimed DeLisa had assaulted her, prompting "Scott" to suggest they kill him. After leaving the bus, White and "Scott" practiced shooting with "Scott's" gun before heading to White's residence. "Scott" introduced himself to DeLisa as White's brother from Texas. DeLisa was subsequently shot twice in the head and robbed of his wallet. His body was discovered the following day during a welfare check.
White and "Scott" spent several days together before parting ways. White was later identified as a suspect and apprehended. Three years after the murder, a woman contacted authorities, suggesting her boyfriend, Michael Stratton, might be the individual White knew as "Scott." Stratton was already in custody for a separate homicide in Pueblo, which occurred after DeLisa's death. The woman's account of Stratton's confession aligned with White's version of events. However, Stratton was deemed unfit to stand trial in the Pueblo case and hasn't been charged in DeLisa's murder.
District Attorney Brian Mason described the crime as a "tragic and senseless murder," emphasizing White's significant responsibility. White's sentencing is scheduled for April 4th.
