The Georgia Republican Party has officially severed ties with former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, citing actions perceived as undermining Republican candidates and exhibiting disloyalty to the party. The State Executive Committee voted unanimously on January 6th to expel Duncan, effectively ending his affiliation with the Georgia GOP.
The resolution outlining the expulsion accuses Duncan of several offenses, including actively working against GOP candidates, endorsing Democratic rivals, and leveraging his Republican affiliation for personal benefit. Specifically, the resolution points to Duncan's endorsements of President Biden and subsequently Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race as breaches of party loyalty. It also alleges that he undermined Republican candidates such as current Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and 2022 Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

Duncan responded to the expulsion on social media, questioning the party's prioritization of this action and suggesting they focus on more pressing issues. He directly addressed Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon, criticizing the decision as unproductive.

As a consequence of the expulsion, Duncan is barred from accessing Georgia Republican Party properties and events, and he is prohibited from running for office as a Republican candidate in Georgia. The party has declared his previous Republican nominations for lieutenant governor and state representative void. Furthermore, the resolution demands Duncan refrain from identifying as a Republican for personal gain or to undermine the party and its candidates. The Georgia GOP has requested media outlets refer to Duncan as an “expelled Republican” in future reporting.

Prior to the expulsion, McKoon had publicly called on Duncan to stop using his Republican credentials in public appearances and media engagements. The resolution also accuses Duncan of misrepresenting his educational background and career history, and criticizes his work as a CNN commentator, alleging that he used his platform to attack the Republican Party.
