Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations are intensifying in Chicago, focusing on individuals with violent criminal backgrounds, according to Chicago ICE Field Office Director Sam Olson. In a recent interview, Olson emphasized that the agency is prioritizing the apprehension of dangerous individuals and not targeting people in sensitive locations like schools or churches.

Olson's comments come as former ICE Director Tom Homan and Acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove visited Chicago to address what the Trump administration calls a "national emergency" stemming from the Biden administration's immigration policies. Homan reported that recent enforcement actions have resulted in the apprehension of national security threats, including convicted murderers, sex offenders, and gang members.
Olson praised the collaborative approach involving multiple agencies like the ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals, and the FBI. This coordinated effort allows for real-time information sharing and strategic decision-making. He described the Trump administration's approach as both "amazing" and "unprecedented."

Prior to assuming office, President Trump and Homan had signaled that deportations would be a key focus of their administration. Sources indicate that New York City is the next planned location for ICE operations, following the ongoing efforts in Chicago. Nationwide, over 1,200 illegal immigrants with criminal charges or convictions have been detained.
