A string of burglaries targeting NFL players' homes has prompted Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to take drastic security measures. Homes belonging to Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow have been among those recently targeted.
Tagovailoa revealed on Wednesday that he has hired armed personal security for both his home and family, a decision made after one of his own vehicles was broken into. "It's too close for comfort with my family in the house," he explained, adding that security personnel accompany his wife when he's traveling for games. He issued a stark warning to potential intruders: "They are armed, so think twice before targeting my home."
The recent burglary at Joe Burrow's residence while he was playing against the Dallas Cowboys further highlights the issue. The NFL has circulated a memo alerting players to the heightened risk, believed to be linked to international organized crime, specifically a South American syndicate, according to an FBI investigation.
The league has advised players to implement security measures, such as installing alarm systems, and to avoid sharing real-time location updates or displaying valuable possessions on social media. These burglaries have notably occurred while players are away at games.
